The objectives of Rocking Horse Nursery School are to facilate the development of good social relationships, to nuture self-esteem and to stimulate cognitive growth. We offer a multifaceted program and a curriculum where activites such as dance, music and cooking are integrated around particular topics. Topics we have studied include Native American culture, celebrations around the world, families, our school block, and the weather. The heart of Rocking Horse Nursery School's innovative program is the concept of mainstreaming. We feel that both children with special needs and normal children can learn with and from each other in a nurturing environment. Each child has opportunites to develop and explore their own special qualities and learn to value the abilities of others.
Class Size and Activities There is one mixed-age class each morning varying in size from 16 to 20 children. Each class has three teachers at all times. In addition, an outside specialist teaches music, creative movement, yoga and science.
Facilities Our main class room is a spacious 40 by 60 foot room. We also have a fully-equipped kitchen for cooking projects and an outdoor yard with a playground, swings and sandbox.
Parent Involvement We encourage parent involvement in a variety of ways. From participating on the Board of Directors to organizing fundraisers and social events or volunteering in the classroom, parents are an integral part of Rocking Horse Nursery School.
